Olaf my friend you were right on the money. Believe it or not, there was a node
with the same IP address as the management server. This was deleted and the
problem was gone.

actually I would guess that a zombie object is a not used object. But my
experience with that error is that NG FP2/3 dont like it if you have
several objects for the firewall modul/management server object. I have
had excatly the same error after upgrading from 4.1 to NG. There where
defined several firewall objects instead of using the topology map in
the Checkpoint object. Please ensure that there are no other network
objects with the same ip addresses as firewall or management server.
