David,

I'm afraid that's not the point. I have plenty of space, and I just
tar-gzipped some old logs to have less files to manipulate. By the way, the
problem started before I removed the old logs, and is getting on after I did
that.

Funny enough, I discovered that I can switch logs without problems, simply
using log viewer's menu...

logswitch process would actually *copy* the data to another logfile before
