I like the idea of a wget check, set up weekly or something similar. That
wouldn't be bad to script at all, and crontab or whatever you prefer.
As for stability, a forum for posting general thoughts and/or ratings on
particular hotfixes and releases would be a cool idea. I know Check Point
has this, and
its called SecureKnowledge, but often they keep the information "insider",
especially some of the most critical. I wonder if it was kept to strictly
ratings on the various components, if that would infringe? Probably, yet
still, it may be worth a shot asking Check Point. It's free QA, for crying
out loud... something they need to invest more in, from my opinion! 12
HFA's, the last of which fixed 40 bugs or stability issues? Comon...!
Again, I ask, CP, are you there? <echo> With 6,000+ user database (and bugs
trying to get it to LDAP), dozens and dozens of tunnels, S.C. by the
thousands, and policies and rulebases that are gigantic, I can't risk just
winging it on a particular release.

And the main point of my reply seems to have gone unnoticed - is there an
HFA release notification system? There is not, at least according to the
Checkpoint tech support person I spoke with.
Off the top of my head, I'm thinking a low-tech workaround is to script out
some automated parsing of wget returns to trigger an email when an new HFA
is available. But we'll have to see how it goes. If it works, it might get
close to knowing the "release date" Matt mentions. Or would it? What would
satisfy the "stability" requirement?
Regards,
Ron
