At least whomever coded those messages has a sense of humor. Any
error messages saying, "kernel: Your firewall is now stoned." ???

There is (or was) one for the lp printer port driver that will read:
"lp0: printer on fire." when all the bidir status lines go high
simultaneously.

kernel: Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason 34.
kernel: Dazed and confused, but trying to continue
kernel: Do you have a strange power saving mode enabled?

A quick Google search on the first string turned up two messages in Lunix
groups from 2002, but neither had responses. Interestingly, both of the
other messages were also for IBM hardware (but different models).

In short, the error means that an interrupt was heard from a device that
the Linux kernel doesn't know about, or at least, Checkpoint's kernel
build doesn't have support for. A similar message is something like
"Screaming interrupt (some number)... nobody cares." Means no driver code
is hooked to the interrupt vector for that device.

Going with the last line of the message as a hint, next chance you get, I
would suggest going into the BIOS (Setup) and disabling both APM and ACPI.
I forget offhand if SPLAT gives you a GRUB or LILO boot menu, and I don't
have my SPLAT box accessible to me at the moment, but if so you can also
try "apm=off" on the kernel boot line.

This mysetery device is probably supported in mainstream Linux kernels or
available as a driver package from IBM, but in SPLAT you're probably
stuck working to disable it.
