I have a couple of NG (R55) clusters running SPlat on Intel dual-CPU
hardware. I want to ensure that FW-1 and RedHat are using both procs
whenever possible.
Check Point's SecureKnowledge has this to say about *hyperthreading* at
least:
---
SecurePlatform Linux kernel does not have ACPI support enabled by
default.
Solution
Follow These Steps:
1) Enable Hyperthreading in the BIOS of the server.
2) Enter Expert Mode on SecurePlatform.
3) Add to the smp kernel command line in /etc/grub.conf:
acpismp=force
---
Although my procs are not hyperthreaded, I would think that
hyperthreaded CPUs would still look like a traditional SMP machine to
SPlat (or any OS, for that matter, right?). So, my question is: what
else do I need to do to ensure that I'm making the best use of the CPUs?
The corollary is: how do I confirm that this is the case?
P.S. I read that the FW-1 kernel is not multi-threaded, but that
various security servers are able to run as a separate process
(therefore running as at least one thread on, presumably, any available
proc). That might save you a little time you're your much-appreciated
explanation. Thanx.
