Do you have rights to the file, chmod 777 or 755?

I am trying to get mds_backup to run by cronjob
I see where it uns the command under log/cron but I do not get a backup
file.
How can I see why it is not running?
if I take the command out of the crontab and run it I get a generated
backup file.
