Looking at a much smaller SPLAT cluster - two single CPU Poweredge 850s
with 512 MB memory, 3 Broadcom NICs, running R55 HFA18 - shows:

 10:45am  up 17:13,  1 user,  load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00
60 processes: 58 sleeping, 1 running, 1 zombie, 0 stopped
CPU states:  0.0% user,  4.3% system,  0.0% nice, 95.6% idle
Mem:   512808K av,  215100K used,  297708K free,       4K shrd,   69580K
buff
Swap: 1044216K av,       0K used, 1044216K free                   56348K
cached

I notice that even though your top output shows 1.0 for all sample
windows, the CPU states are shown as almost entirely idle.  Which
doesn't seem to make a lot of sense, as a load average of 1.0 should
give you a CPU usage very near 100% over the number of CPUs - so 50%
over both CPUs on a dual-processor system.

In expert mode (but not in a regular shell) I can run "top --version",
which tells me the top version is "top (procps version 2.0.7)".

I can also "cat /proc/loadavg", which is the kernel pseudo-file that
contains the load average that is interpreted by top ("procps" means
it's implemented to gather info essentially by pretty-printing the
contents of pseudo-files in /proc).

What is the version of top on your R60 cluster?  And, does the info from
top match the info in /proc/loadavg?

Hi all,

what is the load average on your CheckPoint FW system?

My customer has a CheckPoint ClusterXL with two nodes on SPLAT and a
permanent load average from 1.0 on both nodes. I think a load average
from 1.0 all over the time is courious, isn't it? Sometimes the load is
over 1.0.

The nodes are HP DL380 G4 with 2GByte memory. Two onboard Broadcom NIC
and 3 Intel Quad cards. In summary we use 7 network interfaces today.

We use CheckPoint R60 HFA03 with ClusterXL in Unicast Mode, Desktop
Policy Server and CP RealTime Monitor.

In June, we upgrade from R55 to R60 HFA03.

Currently there are 2 VPN tunnels defined and in use. In summary we have
between 400000 and 700000 connections per day.

Here is the header of top output:
