PCI = 32 bit @ 33 MHz = 1056 Mb/s or 32 bit @ 66 MHz = 2112 Mb/s (v2.2 or above
only)
PCI-X = 64 bit @ 133 MHz = 8512 Mb/s
PCI-X v2 = 64 bit @ 266 MHz = 17024 Mb/s
Which means 1 single quad Gb card will fill just about the full PCI-X
bandwith.
If you put in 2 cards on the same bus your network speed may exceed your
bus by a factor of 2.
While most segments may not even reach 50% load it is clear that this is a
most ideal usage of the PCI(-X) bus.
I would be a bit cautious on putting too much Gb interfaces into a
firewall unless you are extremely certain about your internal bus
structure.
