I would strongly suggest you all to subscribe to the Phoneboy list if
not done so yet.
Don't put your effort in convincing Checkpoint to keep the list. Don't
think for a second that Checkpoint even cares if we would like the list
to be continued otherwise they would have asked before announcing its
end. They don't care if it is a help to a lot of us and very much more
convenient than a forum.

Hi Gil.
Thanks for the notification. The new site looks great. Well done!
I would like to point out however, that moving the list to the forum is
a bad idea. Here's why:
Most of the professionals on this list answer queries because it is
quick and convenient to do so via email. In general, web-based forums
have less content than mailing lists. This is simply because it takes
more time to monitor a forum, and most of us (generally speaking) do not
spend all day on the web site. We DO always monitor our email though, so
providing feedback or solutions is quick and easy.
Once this list is moved, I imagine that the amount of questions will
increase, but the amount of feedback or solutions will drastically
decrease.
In short, over a period of time the overall value the forum provides
will decrease, and then what is the point of having it at all?
In my opinion, a better idea would be to link the mailing list and the
forum, so that list members are notified when web-based posts are added,
and so that email responses are copied to the forum. That will allow the
current professionals greater flexibility in providing solutions.
Use the skill and experience of the people on this list, don't tie our
hands and make it difficult for us to help. That would just alienate us
and frustrate those looking for help. It will also increase the amount
of calls your support desk is handling, possibly leading to service
degradation and loss of reputation.
I implore you to reconsider this course of action.
Kind Regards

Hello FW-1 list users.
I am glad to announce Check Point's new Support web site
(www.checkpoint.com/support).
The new Support site includes an improved user interface and new
features.
One of the new features is our Discussion Forums. Like the FW-1 list,
the forums are an environment where customers are open to discuss issues
with other customers.
However, in contrast to the mailing list the forums offer improved user
interface and easy access to information.
I would like to invite you to use the Discussion Forums and will be glad
to meet you there.
For this reason and after several years of operation, the FW-1 mailing
list will be closed in the next days and its content will be placed in
the "Miscellaneous" forum.
I will appreciate any comments and feedback that you may have about the
Support web site, and the forums.
See you there!
Gil Sudai.
