I totally agree that this list has been an invaluable resource.
I am offering to host a mail list. I know many others can do the same, I just
want to extend the offer. I have plenty of bandwidth and storage to allow for
file attachments etc. I could start with Mailman and make the archives
searchable.

Hi,
This mailing list have done in the past a great deal of good service to
us users and it still giving great service now. Why change or shutdwon
that is something good and delivering good value to users of CP products?
While this list might not give CP income from support
queries/faults/etc, it gives us users access to, and a forum, to
exchange answers, thoughts, ideas, and experiences. Thus, this lists
help maintain CP product commercially.
One can post a question here and you get immediate reponse. It may or
may not resolve the issue at hand but at least you get a reply from
people that have experienced the same problem. If you get a reply, you
know that it's coming from experience (running hot/live equipment in
production environment) and more detailed that what you get from CP's
KnowledgeBase (if you're lucky it has been reported already or it is in
the free section).
The current desire to move the list unilaterally just shows how
vulnerable the setup of this current list is.
I won't be surprised if list users will go to or create a new list in
another place totally independent (like phoneboy or something similar).
I, for one, will move to the new list.
