dont know if you're through yet. If you have any problems with this setup you can ask me - I have a cluster in exaxt this setup besides it is based on Nokia and my switches behind are 4500 Cats... This cluster has approx 80 vlans running this way. Another cluster I have running in this setup uses HP Procurves behind also in this setup...

i use it on HP switches. afair, gvrp is an IEEE standard.

yeah, i know vtp is cisco proprietary, but it's a shame, as it's more
