Hello,
I am running Nessus 3.0.2 for Fedora Core 4 on a Pentium 4 with 500 MB RAM and a 100Mb ethernet connection.
After scanning ~50 windows servers and workstations I found the following system message:
Warning!!!: Connections Rejected due to high load average 98 Time(s)
Load Avg 12: 19 Time(s)
Load Avg 13: 20 Time(s)
Load Avg 14: 18 Time(s)
Load Avg 15: 12 Time(s)
Load Avg 16: 7 Time(s)
Load Avg 17: 3 Time(s)
Load Avg 18: 5 Time(s)
Load Avg 19: 5 Time(s)
Load Avg 20: 1 Time(s)

Load Avg 22: 1 Time(s)
Load Avg 24: 1 Time(s)
Load Avg 26: 2 Time(s)
Load Avg 27: 2 Time(s)
Max. Load Avg reached: 27 My .nessusrc server prefs are as follows:
begin(SERVER_PREFS) max_hosts = 20 max_checks = 4 cgi_path = /cgi-bin:/scripts port_range = default auto_enable_dependencies = yes silent_dependencies = yes host_expansion = ip ping_hosts = no reverse_lookup = yes optimize_test = no
safe_checks = no use_mac_addr = no unscanned_closed = no save_knowledge_base = no > > kb_restore = no kb_dont_replay_scanners = no kb_dont_replay_info_gathering = no kb_dont_replay_attacks = no kb_dont_replay_denials = no kb_max_age = 864000 slice_network_addresses = no plugin_upload_suffixes = .nasl, .nasl3, .inc, .inc3, .nbin plugin_upload = yes plugins_timeout = 320 non_simult_ports = 139, 445 checks_read_timeout = 5 language = english log_whole_attack = yes throttle_scan = yes auto_update_delay = 24 auto_update = yes end(SERVER_PREFS) Why were those connections rejected? Is my "max_hosts" set to high compared to the amount of RAM that I am using? Or do I need to decrement the "checks_read_timeout" number?
Thanks!
