Hm, you're right. There also exists a plugin to identify a vmware- server.

vmware_detect.nasl relies primarly on the MAC adress, but the list seems not to be complete for not discovering my VMware :)

Hu ? Your MAC address is 00:0C:29:74:34:44, vmware_detect.nasl should detect it.

Unless you're running Nessus 2.x which can't obtain the MAC address of the remote host, the plugin should have caught it.
