You have to run something like "nmap -oG /tmp/example 127.0.0.1"

The output file should look like this (without the "\", I truncated
the long lines)
# Nmap 4.20 scan initiated Sun Feb 18 10:37:51 2007 as: \
nmap -oG /tmp/example 127.0.0.1 
Host: 127.0.0.1 (localhost)     Ports: 21/open/tcp//ftp///, \
22/open/tcp//ssh///, 23/open/tcp//telnet///, 25/open/tcp//smtp///, \
37/open/tcp//time///  [snip]
