Here local means local to that host. It contains a list of domains for which e-mail is accepted and delivered to this host. So you need to add otherdomain1.com to locals in this case.
if i add domains otherdomain1.com and otherdomain2.com in locals file i don't get the above error.
these domains are not local.
You don't add a domain to local *only* when the mailstore is *not* on same host. In your case, ti seems that same host i.e. mail1.mydomain.com is responsible for otherdomain1.com and otherdomain2.com, so you would add it in ~control/locals file.

If your host mail1.mydomain.com is not storing mail for somedomain.com but is preferred MX then you would add it only in ~control/rcpthosts file and set "host" attribut in LDAP to host where you want to store mails for that domain. This is when it should not be in ~control/rcpthosts.
