        I'm not sure if I understood your question.

        It is not possible to have only one password field, you
can have a LDAP entry with sambaSamAccount and qmailUser without
any problems, then you just need to activate 'ldap passwd sync'
in your smb.conf.

        If you change passwords in another way (via some script
in the web) you will need to add the NT/LM Password part to it
or use a samba tool behind the scenes to do the trick.
