Hi people,

I would like to check a few things about the behaviour
of ~control/badmailfrom-unknown. I'm running the latest qmail
with qmail-ldap patch: "RELEASE: $Date: 2006/02/01 15:59:19").
- From the QLDAPINSTALL:

~control/badmailfrom-unknown

This file contains blocked addresses for server without a PTR RR.
This is useful to stop some spammer that use fake hotmail or yahoo
addresses but mail from home-pc without a PTR RR dns record.
 Example: @hotmail.com
 Note: Syntax as in ~control/badmailfrom.

In Brasil, we have lots of problems with reverse addresses
ADSL users (companies that uses ADSL and host their mail service
behind it), ISPs and companies that do not take proper care of DNS
entries, IP and PTR RR. If I reject messages from domains with
wrong PTR RR and reverse mapping I will certainly lost good e-mails.

But, if I understood correct the behaviour of
badmailfrom-unknown, the PTR RR checks will only happen for domains
added to the control file, for all other e-mails, no PTR RR check
will be made, is that right?

The conclusion is: I know that yahoo properly sets their
DNS configurations and PTR RRs, so, if I add yahoo.com to my
badmailfrom-unknown, only messages that claim to be from yahoo
will have PTR RR tested, is that right?

Anybody using this control file has seen an improvement in
fighting SPAM?

        Thanks in advance.
        Kind regards,
