Hello Claudio,

I think it isn't good idea to speak about overhead.
You absolutely right, SSL is bad instrument on high load systems, but it's
the administrator's task to know what does he do.

I really hope that you realize this functional for qmail-ldap. :)
It goes without saying if you can do it.

Use a local slapd and bind it to 127.0.0.1. Using TLS for the ldap lookups
will kill your server as soon as your mail server is hit by many emails.
The overhead to establish a secure session is just too high.
