Hi,
Seems you are running courier authlib and imap ver 4.x. auth_imap wont
work with ver 4.x

Subject: Re: Integrating qmail-ldap with courier-imap: completly lost
Quoting "Russell Simpkins" <russ@cttechhosting.net>:
I use qmail-ldap and courier-imap, and I don't bother to run the
authdaemon, I just go directly against /var/qmail/bin/auth_imap.
so long since I did this, that I don't remember what was wrong with
the
authaemon, but this works for me today.
[...]
LIBAUTHMODULES="/var/qmail/bin/auth_imap"
[...]
$PORT ${exec_prefix}/sbin/imaplogin
$LIBAUTHMODULES \
${exec_prefix}/bin/imapd
${MAILDIRPATH}"
Problem is that current (at least 4.1.1 that I'm running) don't accept
this,
so I HAD to resort to authdaemond (which needs to be restarted every
five - !! -
minutes to usable!):
