This morning my user tried to use the qmail-ldap server and he can login and send email to any other domains. The problem is, after he change his password in ldap server via smbldap-passwd tool, he cannot login into qmail-ldap server again - even with his old password.

If password was changed successfully then he should login with new password.

Does it take time for qmail-ldap server before it can recognise the new password,

No, new password is immediately comes in effect.

or do I have to do something in the mail server, e.g. restarting it - maybe ?

No restarting required.

Check if your lookup is proper and that your password is in correct format.

On page below..

(You should be able to access it now)
look for "Something is wrong with qmail-smtpd. Cannot receive/send mail."

tell us what it says if you can't spot any problem.
