Instead of actually trying to understand the way that the protocol works (and
that means taking into account the way it works in practice, not just in
theory), you tried to guess the right behaviour from a sample population of
one (!).  That, not suprisingly, gave you the wrong answer.

It's a common error, as actually trying to understand the protocol properly is
a lot of hard work.  But don't blame qmail because you got it wrong -- and
there's no doubt that you did.  You've illustrated that amply in this thread.
