What is "the best solution" ?
In terms of efficiency ? Easyness ? Simplicity ?
After one month of current use in heavy spammed areas, it turns out:
1. With a setting of GREETDEALY=50 you get rid of almost 100%
spams/smtp-connects from bot-nets.
2. Depending on your situation, this may reduce spam mails by 50% to 70%.
3. Don't forget: With GREETDELAY you consume connections for a certain
amount of time from bot-nets PCs. Thus, with this mean you really suppress
spams from those sources even to anyone else.
4. GREETDELAY can be used by all MTAs, sendmail, postfix, exim ....
With Qmail, using tcpserver it's use is absolutely trival and does not
require any patching or third-party programs.
5. Third-party programs might even be harmful if you use sslserver instead
tcpserver and e.g. SPAMCONTROL for SSL. This requires additional FDs for
secure communication between sslserver and qmail-smtpd.
regards.
