You are right Jeff.
My intention is/was to find out a reason, since everyone here uses qmail. I'm a
long (3 years now) member of this mailing list.
I used my chance to ask it, when someone(parent post) bragged about timeframe
of qmail releases (10 years ago last time).
That is really cool, but unmaintained software is doomed. Imagine a unmantained
kernel, X, apache ...
You have a web server that lacks a load of features, but it's secure.. and no
one found an remote exploit for it..and on the other hand, you have some other
web server which have everything you need, and it's fast and secure. Which one
would you use ?
Would you stick around and patch stuff, to the level of backward
compatibility..to get some of the features other few web server already have
and aren't any slower or less secure.
There's no logic in that.
When we ask that ourself, DJB should then ask himself, is this policy OK.. and
does he care about qmail. If he doesn't, why should admin deal with it. I was
searching for a answer here.
Unfortunaly almost all I got here, was bashing. I should duck.
Kind Regards,
Sasa
