While qmail can do this job, it can be considered overkill. A non-queuing MTA like ssmtp fits the bill for that, if you always have an ISP connection when you want to send mail.

Another good one to try is msmtp, which even has a set of scripts (msmtpqueue) which provide some limited amount of queueing for offline work. http://msmtp.sf.net
