actually, he did:

what probably happened is he forgot to create it, then symlinked
/var/qmail/supervise/qmail-send into /service, which started up
supervise and such, then created the log dir later.
to fix this, simply:
svc -dx /service/qmail-send/ /service/qmail-send/log
and it should start back up nicely with the log service running.
