Take a look at the logs for qmail-pop3d or whatever POP server you're
using and see if there are clues there. Try talking to the POP server
by hand ("telnet pop.server.name 110") and see if you can
authenticate. If everything works by hand but not by a client, look
at using "recordio" or a packet sniffer (like ethereal/tcpdump/wireshark)
to see what the client is doing differently than what you're doing by
hand.
