Vanilla qmail-smtpd doesn't emit any messages like that. Nor does tcpserver.
Exactly what messages are you seeing? And when you see one, what is the
current concurrency logged by tcpserver for your qmai-smtpd service?
What patches, if any, have you applied to your qmail/daemontools/ucspi-tcp
installation?

Different mail server software has different retry schedules, some more
complex than others.

Unfortunately, that's not under your control.

No, it's not normal. Adding an MX record is unlikely to make a difference, as
we don't yet know what the problem is, and the current evidence suggests it's
*not* qmail.
