Version is 1.05 i think the only thing i did was modify the Makefile or somthing for that errno.h problem on RedHat based distros.

is this normal? do i just need to raise my open file limit or is there something more serious going on here?

This is not normal. Have you patched tinydns or otherwise modified the source?
