I'm having an e-mail DNS problem. I run a home server with djbdns and qmail,
handling a few domains and a couple of users and 1 small mailing list.
Frequently I get reports of e-mail failing to be sent to my server because
the DNS lookup failed. This happens a lot from comcast.net, and occasionally
from att.net. I forget the exact error message, but it is basically that the
DNS lookup of the mail server timed out. (Immediately resending the message
succeeds, since the dns data has arrived by that time).
I think that comcast and att might have their DNS parameters set so that
smaller servers like mine that don't always respond instantaneously sometimes
get shut out. Anyone else with similar experiences? Suggestions on who to
contact at comcast/att?
I'm also looking for a secondary or two. I'd prefer someone who is also
a home server like me, even using split horizon DNS, I wrote a cool perl
script to do the work (http://www.jfoo.net/index.php/Jfooxfer) of transferring
data even in split horizon situations. I'd also prefer someone with a faster
better connected server so that the big guys like comcast and att stop ignoring
me :p
Thanks
