Hello all,
Attached, you should find three files. First is the
script I'm using to test my DNS setup, which is more
complicated than I like. Second is the direct output
from that script, and third is the output from the
packet filtering log during the test.
I really don't know what is wrong, since it very much
appears that logging is not happening to any place I'm
looking for it, as you'll see from the direct output
from the script. As near as I can tell, tinydns is
working (but my packet filter is blocking access to
the outward facing instance, despite the fact I told
it not to; this is a somewhat less urgent problem).
But dnscache is not answering. As near as I can tell,
it has the right IP addresses and the right ports.
What appears to have broken this is a conversion of
this system from OpenBSD (which I like fine but seems
too limiting) to FreeBSD.
I have installed everything from FreeBSD ports, but
copied the configurations from the OpenBSD instance
(and changed qmail to run under daemontools, per
Life With Qmail, so among other things, SMTP works).
So since logging is not happening in the djb way,
where is it happening? And why wouldn't dnscache
answer?
