Isn't it just a matter of modifying the registry?

It worked for me very well, you navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\,
here you will need to find your adapter.

Finally, create a new reg_sz value inside that key
called NetworkAddress, where you set the mac (for example 002cdeadbeef).

You need to restart yout box or eject/reinsert the card if it's removable.
